What should you ask when interviewing wedding photographers?

When you are interviewing potential wedding photographers, remember, you are not just buying the album and photos, but more importantly you are buying the person. So your first consideration should be, is this the right person to capture our most important day?

Therefore, you first question should be “are you the photographer who will be photographing my wedding?”

1. Make appointments with several photographers to view their work and portfolio. Start by researching websites that sually show galleries of their work and other weddings they have done. If you are dealing with a studio that had several associate photographers, make sure you see the individual photographers work that is proposing to work on your wedding. Photographers all have their own individual style; therefore, make sure the photographer you want to hire is named in the contract before you sign.

2. Personality, understanding and rapport are extremely important. Can this person see your vision? Can they understand what you want? Do you feel comfortable with them? Do you feel relaxed? Make sure you both feel comfortable and relaxed with your photographer because they will spend the better part of the wedding day with you and if you don’t feel comfortable, it will show in your photos. Apart from the photographer’s vision and creativity, you want them to show professionalism, inspiration and above all personality.

3. Get multiple quotes. Ensure the quote includes details of how many prints are included, the number of hours the photographer will spend with you, which locations they will attend, payment options and cost of processing.

4. Once you have chosen your wedding photographer, make a list of some of the “must-have” shots you want so you can give this to the photographer. On the day, they will guide you, so it’s a good idea that they know some of the photos you want. For example, you may want a posed photo with your grandparents, a photo of all the children attending the wedding, a photo of the bride with her mother and mother-in-law, photos of the reception tables, photos of the church building.
